What started as a personal reconnection with nature gradually evolved into a sense of belonging, laying the foundation for community based tourism in Sumba.

The heart of Betelnut is rooted in relationship.
What began as a quiet connection with a neighbouring family slowly grew into something deeper, built on trust, shared rhythms, and everyday life. The land was never separate from the people; it was cared for, understood, and lived with. The passing of those who were central to this story is felt deeply, yet their presence continues to live on in the land, in the community, and in the way Betelnut is held today. Their families remain an integral part of this space, with ongoing opportunities for education, employment, and shared growth.
