Pasola Festival
Join us for a unique Sumba experience
March, 2025
Come join us at Betelnut Retreat for the uniquely Sumba - Pasola Festival. Pasola is an old harvest festival celebrated especially in the SouthWest region of Kodi, in Sumba. It brings together all the colour and spectacle of this wonderful culture as male villagers face off against each other on horseback and wooden javelins (it was only a few years ago that the government banned the use of spears, with the intention of preventing loss of life). Tradition states that when blood is split the harvest will be good!
We are offering a special Pasola Retreat to help you experience the richness of Sumba. You can choose the length of your stay, with the minimum being 2 nights (but why wouldn’t you stay longer. In our opinion you wouldn’t want to stay for less than 3 nights and most people come away wishing they had stayed for at least 4!). There are 3 different room rates all per person.:
-
Individual Bungalow (1) - 2 million Rupiah per night
-
Shared Bungalow (2 bungalows - 3 beds each) - 1.5 million Rupiah per night
-
Tent (4 available) - 1 million Rupiah per night
Accommodation includes all food (vegetarian, locally grown), excursion to festival, guided surfing (at one of the best waves in Sumba), your own hammock, beautiful empty beaches, amazing sunsets, and evenings around the fire. Airport pick-up and drop-off, and other guided tours within Sumba are extra, and depend on numbers. There will also be the option of some healing plant medicine provided by Alam Farma if you so choose.
We have 12 spots available so book now before they go.
